Resources and tips to help you connect with the right scholarships

Welcome

This website exists to be a readily available resource for PLNU students to be able search for outside scholarships, as this process can be intimidating at times. There are many scholarships out there, but it is finding them that can be difficult and time consuming. Our simple advice when applying for scholarships is to always start searching within your local community, as the nationwide scholarships can attract hundreds of thousands of applicants. Our hope is that you find this to be a helpful tool in finding applicable scholarships for you!

How to Best Use This Resource:

  • You can view all of the scholarships listed, by clicking on the SCHOLARSHIPS tab at the top of the page and browsing each individual scholarship.
  • If you are searching for a specific type of scholarship, you may use the search bar in the top right-hand corner. This is a great search tool, and will aid you in finding any scholarship listed with a particular keyword. (Suggested keywords may be: FAFSA, types of ethnicities, titles of majors, grade levels, etc.)
  • In addition, under the “TIPS & RESOURCES” tab, there are links to various websites that have or help you search for various scholarships.

Disclaimer:

These suggestions of websites and/or organizations as possible scholarship resources are not an endorsement of PLNU’s views and standards. Therefore the suggested websites are not necessarily endorsed nor supported by Point Loma Nazarene University. Students may apply to these scholarships at their own risk by contacting the potential donor organization. This resource is intended to be a useful tool for PLNU students when searching for additional outside aid.

Tips:

  1. Beware of scholarship scams – You should never be asked to pay money in order to apply for a scholarship. If you are asked to pay, then it is most likely a scam.
  2. Apply for scholarships unique to you – Instead of applying for the broad, corporate scholarships; begin searching for scholarships that are unique to your major, ethnicity, family background, location, etc.
  3. Start searching for scholarships locally – Research groups and organizations within your community. The national scholarships draw thousands of applicants; you will have better luck by finding scholarships in your area. See the photo below for an idea of where to start.
  4. Inquire about scholarships – Some companies have monies for scholarships, but they do not do a very good job of letting students know. If you think a company may have scholarship monies, feel free to write them a scholarship inquiry letter like this one.
